Integrated training

Physical training at the School of Energy Alignment blends traditional internal martial arts with modern methods. Fascia training speeds up understanding and progress in all martial arts, not just Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation and Kung Fu.

Long Ying Kuen 龍形拳 (Dragon Style Kung Fu) is a rare and highly refined Southern Chinese martial art, trained here for its internal mechanics, precise method and explosive power.

Already train martial arts? BJJ, boxing or MMA? Internal training improves structure, balance under pressure and short range power, and carries straight into your art. I will coach you on the principles so that you can apply them to your own style.

Lineage

The classes follow the authentic lineage of Long Ying Kuen, as passed from Lam Yiu Gwai to Lam Yiu Dong and to Grandmaster Cheung Kwok-Tai in Hong Kong. This ensures the system is taught with clarity, precision, and respect for its traditional roots, whilst evolving it to match modern science.

Fascia training

The fascia is the body’s connective tissue, linking the whole body into one elastic structure. Our physical training develops four essential attributes:

  • Agility, creating spring like, light, fast movement
  • Density, building resilient, internally connected strength
  • Mobility, integrated motion for power in any position
  • Power, generating crisp, explosive force through relaxed structure

Internal training methods

Internal means power generated from energy, intent, structure and whole body coordination rather than muscular effort alone: relaxed strength, spiralling force and wave like movement. The emphasis is not on choreography or acrobatics, but on method. Training focuses on:

  • Developing the ground path and centre through correct body method
  • Creating whole body power through biotensegrity
  • Building a stable yet mobile structure
  • The internal “dragon” mechanics of coiling, releasing and rebounding
  • Coordination and timing with internal pressure and intent
  • Command of internal energy to manipulate balance

Fun, safe partner training

To understand your own structure, it helps to feel another’s. Partner exercises help you build faith in methods, awareness and internal strength. They are suitable for beginners and taught safely, without pressure or competitiveness. Partner work starts cooperative and adds resistance as your structure improves.

  • Rooting and uprooting
  • Rebound drills and Fa Jin releases
  • Bridge and structure sensitivity (listening through the point of contact)
  • Pad work and partner drills and step sparring

How it relates to Tai Chi

Tai Chi and Long Ying Kuen share similar internal principles although they use different methods. In Tai Chi Chuan Principles they are trained slowly so you can feel them. Here they are trained faster, more dynamically and explosively. Many students train both, as they complement each other.
